BEVERAGE MECHANICS
To begin learning the techniques of professional bartending you will need the followng tools and equipment. Every bartender should have these tools.

PERSONAL BARTENDERS TOOLS
1. An ice scoop - A standard size scoop makes sure you get just the right amount.
2. A strainer - Basically used to keep ice from going into the glass when drink is poured.
3. A bar spoon - Bar spoons are used for stirring drinks either in a drink glass, mixing glass or cup.
4. A mixer or shaker - Ingredients are measured into the mixing glass and the cup is placed on top. The two are held tightly together and shaken. Usually the shaker comes with a strainer as a set.
5. A wine knife - A handy device probably developed by the Swiss because of its versatil ty. It includes a corkscrew, bottle opener and a hawk billed knTe to open seals on wine bottles. Always useful.
6. Jiggers - There are two types of jiggers, glass and stainless steel. They are used to measure the amount of liquor cocktails, highballs and other drinks call for. Stainless steel jiggers usually have two sides with a variety of sizes, the most used depends on the size of the drinks you are making. For this lesson you will need a I oz and a I 1/2 oz jigger, for standard drinks.
7 . Pourers - A device which fits at the open end of the bottle to reduce the flow to a more predictable rate. They are used on every opened end liquor bottle in the bar. You need only 10 to 12.
